An invitation to write the Christmas message for the last newsletter of the year is an opportunity to reflect upon our work, to give thanks to God for what we may have achieved for the prolife movement and already anticipating what the next year may ask of us.
It is something for which to be grateful that the recent state election has seen the defeat of the government which ushered in both the legalisation of abortion to birth and the Voluntary Assisted Dying law, which is euthanasia by another name. We have also witnessed the defeat of a radically pro-abortion government in the USA whose would-be president, Karmala Harris paraded abortionists as part of her election campaign!
However, that rampant activism has left its toll in the form of law which we in Queensland and our counterparts in the USA must strive to overcome or ameliorate. That is no mean feat as with the passage of Labour’s extreme law in 2018 and 2021, attitudes against life are hardened and minds are closed to the alternatives that a wealthy country like Australia can offer to those for whom their own life or that of another may feel burdensome at the time.
We look forward to the company of family and friends each Christmas because it is a time of giving in acknowledgment of God giving His Son Jesus Christ to be the Saviour of mankind. Each unborn life reminds us that Jesus Himself was once embryonic in His human nature, a mystery difficult to fathom. However, there was no mystery about the forces arraigned against Him after His birth to prevent that plan from eventuating, as witnessed by the slaughter of the innocents.
These same “principalities and powers” are evident when we oppose powerful anti-life organisations, political parties and other groups which, for monetary gain or ideological reasons, have no concern for the lives of unborn babies, the frail aged and the dying when they are inconvenient or expensive to sustain. We can only hope that with the advent of a new government, our message will fall upon more open ears.
I would like to thank our CEO Matthew Cliff, his wife Melanie, and our Management Committee for their hard work and dedication this year. On their behalf, I would like to thank all our members for your ongoing financial and practical support and extend to you and your families the blessings of the Christmas season.
